The Newman Scholarship
 
The Newman Scholarship is open to any College of Brockport student who is entering their junior or senior year who is a practicing Roman Catholic, demonstrats a commitment to service, and has a G.P.A. of  3.0 0r  better.
(The scholarship is awarded each spring for the following fall, which means you would be a junior or senior the fall after you apply).
 
These scholarships were endowed by Dr. Joan Butmore Freitas (’51) and Mr. Archie Freitas (’52) in honor of their parents Louis & Jane Butmore and Archie and Julia Freitas.

The Backstory:
 
Joan and Archie met at a Newman pancake breakfast in 1950. They fell in love, got married, moved to California and began their teaching careers. In 2000 they approached the college with the idea of a Newman Scholarship which would give back both the college and to the Newman Campus Ministry that meant so much to them….
